Take Action to Improve Educational Supports for California’s 1.4 million English Learners
Did you know…
- One of every four public school students in California are classified as English learners
- California’s English learners represent more than 60 different languages
- 60 percent of children, birth to age five, coming into public education live in homes where English is not the only language spoken
California students who are English learners are an asset to our state’s culture, community, and economy. The state must provide supports to English learners that will help them more meaningfully engage and succeed in school.
The first step to strengthening support for English learners was the state’s development of the California English Learner Roadmap. Organizational members of The Children’s Movement members are encouraged to sign onto a letter urging the state to fund capacity-building programs to help educators implement the Roadmap.
