Children Now President Ted Lempert’s Statement in Response to the Governor’s Budget Proposal
OAKLAND, CA —
We applaud the Governor’s focus on continued support for kids in his proposed budget, including TK, community schools, after school, and career education. But much more is needed. We currently rank 35th nationally in child well-being and are at the bottom of states in terms of adult/student ratios on campus (which includes teachers, counselors, and nurses). We look forward to working with the Governor and Legislature on increasing support for child care, education, mental health, youth homelessness and youth in foster care.
