Children Now Statement on Gov. Newsom’s State of the State

OAKLAND, CA— Children Now President Ted Lempert issued the following statement today in response to Governor Newsom’s State of the State:

“We applaud Governor Newsom’s support for greater transparency and accountability in education – these issues are at the very heart of ensuring the success of the equity focused Local Control Funding Formula. We also applaud the Governor’s appointment of Linda Darling Hammond as President of the State Board of Education. Finally, we are affirmed by the Governor’s commitment to improving health care services for children, particularly his focus on expanding screenings and mental health services. We look forward to working with the Administration to build a California where all kids have the support they need to be safe, learn and grow strong.”
